Stoppers and strainers are the key components of your sink drainage system. Strainers trap gunk, debris, and food rests preventing the pipes from being stuck. They come in different sizes that depend on the drain opening diameter, with designs ranging from simple level strainers that are basically metal rings with a wire mesh, to popular stopper strainers that combine two features in one unit. In their turn, stoppers, also known as plugs, are there to block the drainage outlet when needed, e.g. to do some small washing by hand, save water while shaving, and other tasks.

Pop-up sink stoppers use a simple opening and closing mechanism, which includes a lift handle connected to a clevis strap and a pivot rod. Their push-button counterparts do not feature any separate handles, rods, and connectors, with a pop-up system built into the unit. The plug stuck in the open or closed position is a frustrating problem, which requires disassembling the mechanism and replacing broken components or the entire unit.
