RV Awnings and Shades | Enjoy the Outdoors Out of the Heat & Glare

There's a saying, "Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful". In an RV or trailer where every inch of space counts, those words apply many times over. Each item brought aboard must serve an extremely useful purpose relative to the amount of weight it adds. Beauty? It’s nice if you can come by that also.

RV Awning

In this article, we'll take a look at RV awnings and shades we offer. Not only are they extremely useful, they're made of durable lightweight materials and are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. When not in use, these awnings and shades fold up to occupy minimal space.

Patio Awnings

When you're looking forward to getting on the road with an RV or trailer, experienced campers say one of the most important things you'll want to bring along is a patio awning. By design, these extend outward when you're parked to provide a shaded area along the side of the vehicle, and they keep an interior much cooler by blocking direct sunlight. A patio awning placed in the right spot can make a real difference in fuel savings when air conditioning systems don't need to run as often.

Power Awning Shades

If the convenience of an awning with power operation is more to your liking, we've got you covered. Solera Awnings offers the Power/Hybrid 8-Foot Extension Patio Awning Roller Assembly with a selection of lengths in solid or gradual fade colors. We also offer the Carefree Eclipse Power 8-Foot Extension Patio Awning in a variety of lengths with your choice of solidstripedcheckered, or faded patterns.

Extensions for Existing Awnings

Extension for Existing Awning
The Carefree Awning Extend'r Patio Awning Extension Panel.

We’ve got a section devoted to RV awning shades & extenders, where you’ll find pieces designed to extend the coverage of existing awnings. For example, the Carefree Awning Extend'r Patio Awning Extension Panel is a horizontal piece that extends overhead coverage outward by 8 feet. It attaches to any awning and comes with stakes, straps, and adjustable support poles to secure it in place. Available lengths range from 14 to 20 feet.

Individual Window Awnings

Individual window awnings are ideal when you desire privacy and shade from the sun, plus they add a classy finishing touch to the outside of any trailer or RV. We've got awnings from major manufacturers such as Solera, Dometic RV, and Carefree - most of which are offered in a variety of solid and fade-out hues.

Individual Window Awnings

To choose the ideal size for your application, we recommend measuring the exterior width of the window frame from outer edge to outer edge. Then take that width measurement and round up to the next available shade size offered. At night when you want complete privacy, it's easy to lower these individual awnings manually and effectively turn them into window covers.

Complete Awning Rooms

And Screen Room (right) – both of which are available in sizes ranging from 10 to 21 feet wide.

For traditional mounting using awning rails, we've got a good selection of patio awning enclosures from Carefree (choose Buena Vista Plus for smaller sizes, or the Vacation’r model for larger sizes). We've also got two Solera Awnings products that are large enough to fit onto existing awning rails. Both are enclosed on all sides, with the Family Complete Room providing a high level of privacy in sizes ranging from 10-foot to 21-foot. Or, choose the Screen Room version in sizes up to 21 feet with see-through screening on all sides for a great view.

If you prefer a setup that doesn't mount to an awning canopy or to the side of your trailer, Carefree's Vacation'r Complete Room is available in widths up to 18/19 feet and comes with everything you need.

Single-Side Hanging Screens

Sometimes you want to enjoy the comfortable shade of an overhead awning while being out in the open breeze and fresh air. Camaraderie with neighbors who share a love of camping flows best outdoors without walls surrounding you.

Single-Side Hanging Screens

Yes, relaxing outside your trailer under an awning is great - except for the fact that the awning doesn't prevent the sun from blazing right into your eyes when it's low in the sky. This is where clever front sun block screen panels and side sun block panels come into play.

In our Awning Shades & Extenders section, you’ll find mesh pieces designed to hang vertically from the front or side of your existing awning. Because light and air can pass through them, you'll continue to enjoy all the benefits of being outside - without the annoying glare.

If you prefer more frontal privacy, check out Thule's non-see-thru front Rain Blocker Front Panels with and without screen window cutouts.

If you're looking for screens that attach to the front side of an awning (parallel to the trailer/RV), we've got the Camco Awning Front Sun Block Panel, Solera Awnings Classic Shade Patio Awning Front Sun Block Panel, Carefree SunBlocker Patio Awning Front Sun Block Panel, and Solera Awnings Super Shade Patio Awning Front Sun Block Panel (for wider lengths). For side protection, we've got full screen panels by Solera Awnings and Carefree.

Awnings For Slide-Out Rooms

Slide-out awnings cover only the tops of camper slide-out sections to provide protection against falling debris, dirt buildup, and water infiltration. Because their construction blocks light from hitting the slide-out roof panel, the inside of your trailer won't heat up as much.

Slide-out awnings bolt in place to the outer edge of the room extension piece, and roll out of a cylinder-shaped housing as the room is opened wide. The winding mechanism inside the housing is spring loaded to automatically keep the fabric taut at all times when it's rolling in and out, and when it’s locked in place. We offer a great selection of slide-out awnings in a range of sizes from Carefree, Solera Awnings, and Dometic RV.
